Shepherd Hotel Cairo In 1841, Samuel Shepherd, from
Northumberland, England, became the manager of the
British Hotel in Cairo, together with Hill, an
Englishman. Four Years Later, Hill relinquished his
interest, and Samuel Shepherd bought the British Hotel
and changed its name to Shepherd's.
About 1000 years earlier, the grounds on which
Shepherd's Hotel was built, was the site of several
Palaces built by Mamelouk rules, and later became the
headquarters of Napoleon's forces commanded by general
Kleber.
The present Shepherd Hotel, only a few steps from the
site of the old Shepherd's, retains its same traditions
and quality service… a name of real distinction.
