El Gelf El Kebir area has become more and more popular
among tourists visiting Egypt during the past few years.
This area consists mainly of a huge uninhibited plateau that is around
7700 kilometers and located in the South West of Egypt
on the Libyan borders to the West and the Sudanese
borders to the South. The plateau has become famous
worldwide for its beautiful ruined natural scenes and
human ruins that are ancient dating back to prehistoric
periods.
This trip is the best choice for campers as it consists
mainly of spending six nights in camps in the desert to
feel the magical atmosphere of living in the desert.
This is besides spending one night in the Dakhla Oasis to explore the
sites located there.
This trip is carefully designed to suit the needs and the requirements of
any traveler who loves luxury and comfort. All
transportations will be made using comfortable private
air-conditioned minivans and all the accommodations will

Day 1 |
travel from Cairo
to the Dakhla Oasis, reach Dakhla and start
our visits with the Temple of Nadura, the
cemetery of Bagawat, the Kharga Museum, and
the Temple of Hibis. Overnight in the hotel

Day 2 |
we travel to
visit the Sugar Loaf and mud lions, we camp
in the desert for an overnight |
Day 3 |
We continue our
trip to visit Wadi Mashi dunes and we
continue our trip to reach the gap that
splits the plateau of Gilf Kebir and then we
camp in the desert for an overnight in Wadi

Day 1 : |
Cairo - Dakhla |
|
|
Arrival in Cairo
Upon arrival in Cairo, the guest will meet the Select Egypt Travel
representative who will be your best friend for the
coming five days. We only deal with local highly
educated and experienced company representatives who
have fluent English and wonderful communication skills,
After the "meet and greet", the guest will be
transferred to his hotel, his home away from home,
using the best comfortable air-conditioned minivans.We
take the 4X4 jeep to travel to Dakhla
Afterwards we drive to the Dakhla Oasis, the capital of
the Egyptian oases during the Pharaonic times which is
now famous for its many historical sites, natural
scenery, and handmade products.
We visit the old City of Dakhla with all its re while
listening to a wonderful illustration of the history of
this popular oasis.
Our next visit will be to Al Qasr, which is an ancient
Islamic village with houses and mosques all around it
this village was inhabited more than 500 years ago.
Our next visit will be to the Mozzwaqa necropolis,
discovered in 1908 and hosting many rock cut tombs with
the interesting tombs dating back to the 1st and 2nd
century AD which are colorfully decorated and perfectly
preserved
Our next stop of the day will be to the visit the
temple of Deir Al Hagar or the monastery of the stone in
the Arabic language. This temple which was constructed
during the Roman period and in particular during the
reign of Nero (54- 68 AD) is dedicated to the Theban
triad; Amun, Mut, and Khonsu and it is considered one of
the finest examples of the architecture of the period.

Day 2 : |
Sugar
Loaf – Mud Lions |

-After having the
breakfast we prepare in the camp, its time to go on with
our trip exploring The Gelf Kebir
We take our military escort officer on our way to the
Gelf Kebir area and we start our adventure
Our first stop of the day will be at the Sugar Loaf
area, where the impact of time passing by the continual
blowing of wind caused these sand dunes to form bizarre
and awkward shapes all facing the same direction more or
less
Our next stop of the day will be at the Mud lions area,
which was a large lake in ancient times that was dried
up with time passing by.
While having some imagination, the guest can see how the
wind and the hot and dry weather created these wonderful
figures from different types of rocks. It is well known
scientifically that mud lions can take years and years
to be formed.
At the end of the day, we set up our camp in the desert
to enjoy the magical atmosphere of the region, watch the
stars, have an amazing dinner, and spend the night in
our comfortable camp.

Day 3 : |
Central Gilf
Kebir |
|
|
-After we
have the tasty breakfast in the camp, we take off with
our 4X4 jeep to continue with our adventure We
continue our journey passing by the fascinating sand
dunes at Wadi Mashi,
this uninhibited valley that offers amazing natural
scenes.
We go on until we reach Central Gilf Kebir area where
the plateau is divided into two parts with fabulous
scenery of sand dunes and rock formations filling the
sight in front of us.
We continue with our ride till we reach Wadi Assib , At
the end of the day, we set up our camp in the desert to
enjoy the magical atmosphere of the region, watch the
stars, have an amazing dinner, and spend the night in
our comfortable camp.

Day 4 : |
Aqaba
pass – Wadi Sura |
|
|
We continue with
our ride till we go to the Aqaba pass to view the
western cliffs of the Gilf Kebir Plateau
Our first visit of the day will be at the swimmers Cave,
that was discovered in 1933 and it consists of a large
cave that hosts more than 1000 rock drawings dating to
different periods of time.
Some travelers consider this cave to be the “Sistine
Chapel" like the one in Vatican. This site is truly
different than anything else you will ever view in
Egypt.
Our next stop will be at the Mestekawi Cave which was
discovered in 2002 by an Egyptian-Italian tourist group
which was headed by Massimo Foggini (an Italian tourist)
and Ahmed Mistikaoui (An Egyptian Tourist).
This cave is spectacular hosting a large number of
ancient rock drawings that are perfectly well preserved.
At the end of the day, we set up our camp in
the desert in Wadi Sura to enjoy the magical atmosphere
of the region, watch the stars, have an amazing dinner,
and spend the night in our comfortable camp.

Day 5 : |
Wadi Abd Al Malik |
|
|
-After we have the
tasty breakfast in the camp, we take off with our 4X4
jeep going towards Wadi Abdel El Malik, a large carter
that Al Masy, the discoverer of the swimmers cave, saw
from the airplane and thought it was probably associated
with the three lost valley oases of Egypt at Zerzura.
The area is famous for the many acacia trees
At the end of the day, we set up our camp in the desert
in Wadi Abd Al Malik to enjoy the magical atmosphere of
the region, watch the stars, have an amazing dinner, and
spend the night in our comfortable camp.

Day 6 : |
Silica Glass Area |
|
|
-After having the
breakfast we prepare in our camp, it will be the time to
go on with our fabulous tour of the Gilf El Kebir
Our first stop of the day will be at the Silica Glass
Area, formed more than 28 million years ago. It consists
of a huge area hosting large pieces of magnificently
clear yellow and green Silica Glass scattered all over
the area forming a magical scene that is unbelievable
We choose a nice spot to set up our camp to enjoy the
rest of the day exploring this amazing area
At the end of the day, we set up our camp in the desert
in Silica Glass area to enjoy the magical atmosphere of
the region, watch the stars, have an amazing dinner, and
spend the night in our comfortable camp.

Day 7 : |
Ain Dalla |
|
|
After having
the breakfast we prepare in our camp, it will be the
time to go on with our fabulous tour of the Gilf El
Kebir
We continue our ride heading north and search for some Fulgurites; which
looks like glass tubes
We arrive at Ain Dalla, which is a nice natural water spring surrounded
with palm trees and greenery.
We set up our camp again to spend the night in the
desert relaxing and enjoying the moment - Dinner
and overnight in the camp |

After the energizer
breakfast, it's time to farewell the Gilf Kebir
We will take our Jeep and head towards Cairo at the end
of an amazing adventure in the Gilf Kebir Plataea |
